Rich Millz

Richard Miller Jr., born on March 3, 1990, is an American music producer, songwriter, and engineer. Born and raised in Buffalo, New York, he developed a deep passion for music from an early age and showed diversity in the genres he listened to.

At the age of 10, Miller began his music journey as an aspiring rapper. Using popular instrumentals of the era, he and his friends recorded songs on a computer with programs like Cool Edit, while creating their own beats in Ejay Hip-Hop. As he gained more experience and access to better equipment and software, he gradually shifted his focus toward beat-making while maintaining his interest in both producing and rapping.

Since he and his friends were young and lacked financial resources, they handled every aspect of their music themselves—including engineering, beat-making, distribution, and promotion—which allowed them to develop a wide range of skills. About a year and a half into his journey, Miller moved to Toledo, Ohio, to live with his father for four years. While there, during his 7th and 8th grade years, he connected with another local rapper at one of the high schools he attended. It was during this period that he began focusing more seriously on beat production, partly to keep his rapping (and its explicit content) private from his father.

One summer, during a visit from his mother, the family took a road trip to Dayton, Ohio. In a major show of support for his musical ambitions, his mother purchased him a Korg Triton Extreme 61-key keyboard and a microphone. This significant gift fueled his dedication; upon returning home, he practiced making beats on the keyboard daily.

In high school, Miller met Michael Barrett, known as Mike Flamez (R.I.P.), who already had established local buzz in Toledo. Their musical chemistry was instant and highly productive. Together, they performed opening acts for prominent local underground artists as well as national acts such as Bone Crusher and Lil Scrappy. As their local reputation grew, they completed several projects and began looking to expand their reach.

Around this time, Miller’s mother fell ill, prompting him to move back to Buffalo, New York, to be with her. Once home, he reconnected with his longtime childhood friends and picked up right where he had left off in his hometown music scene.

As he matured, Miller gradually moved away from rapping and dedicated himself fully to beat-making. From his early projects under “TheBeatBuffet” and “Radio Bangers” to his current brand, Rich Millz Beats, he continues to bring over 26 years of hands-on music experience to artists worldwide.
